Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Building maintenance and beautification projects

The beauty of our Sandhills and their Parish Churches is but mere a reflection of the beauty contained in the hearts of our Parishioners.  Thanks to generous gifts of time, talent, treasure, and above all love, our Churches receive regular physical and spiritual care. We do have some repairs and beautification projects underway to help maintain the glory of our Church buildings. These are more intense than our normal care. With the help of Catholic Extension and our devout Parishioners, the SHC Family is taking on the following projects over the course of the next couple years:

St. Mary's, Mullen:

  • Repainting of the interior of the Church, which has not been done since 1992. New paint will brighten up God's house. Complete.
  • Replacement of the walkway leading from the curb to the front door. With cracks and a curve, our entrance is not able to serve those with mobility struggles. As such, we are looking to become ADA compliant and assist all in coming home to Jesus. Complete.

St. Thomas of Canterbury, Thedford:

  • Replacement of the deteriorating ceiling tiles. Complete.
  • Replacement of the deteriorating carpet with faux marble in the aisle and sanctuary, with carpet squares under the pews. Complete.
  • Painting the side walls of the nave. Complete.
  • Replacement of cracked cement and installation of a new drainage system for water. This will greatly help those trying to enter both the Church and hall during our long winter months. On going.

All Saints, Hyannis

  • Replacement of the deteriorating carpet with faux marble in the aisle and sanctuary, with carpet squares under the pews. Complete.
  • Replacement of the deteriorating carpet in the hall with carpet squares. Complete.
  • Repairing cracked/chipped cement around the campus. On going.
  • Repairing the front door frame to prevent any future leaks. On going.

Rectory/Office, in Mullen

After stopping the water from accessing the basement, we need to undertake the following to preserve the Rectory/Office:

  • Replacing leaky windows.
  • Replacing external doors with safe & insulated doors.
  • Adding new siding.
  • Removing basement ceiling tiles to clear out mold.
  • Later project: Repairing/Replacing the leaning garage.

Funds being raised for this project will replenish the building fund accounts, as the interest from these accounts helps us pay the annual exorbitant insurance bill. It is the goal of the Parish Advisory Councils to keep those funds at current levels, allowing the passive income from the interest to better assist our Parishes, while still repairing the Rectory/Office.
