The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process for those who are adults to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Order means to incorporate into, such as Holy Orders or the Order of Matrimony.
If you have ever asked: "How do I become Catholic?" "I did not get Confirmed, how can I get Confirmed now?" or "How do I find out more about the Catholic Church?" Then RCIA is for you. Please contact Father and let him know of your interest.
Youth do not need OCIA, as they will journey through the CCD programs for First Communion, Confirmation, and Faith Formation. Adults who want to join the Catholic Church, get Confirmed, or need Baptized should journey through OCIA.
Sessions are typically held on Thursday evenings via Zoom. This solves the need for extensive travel among the SHC Parishes. Sessions begin in the fall and are completed prior to Easter. The next series of OCIA sessions will begin in August. The exact time of meeting is determined by the participants each year.
Currently, we use the RSV translation of the Holy Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the Baltimore Catechism #3. These three books will be provided to you at no cost.
Typical OCIA sessions will last from 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Held via Zoom, Father will introduce a topic and present the Church's teaching. A time for questions is always present. Prior to the session being presented, those going through OCIA will be asked to do some light reading from one of the texts mentioned above.
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil,
to give you a future and a hope.
