Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Diocese of Grand Island

the roman catholic diocese of grand island, nebraska

The Sandhills Catholic Parishes of St. Thomas of Canterbury in Thedford, St. Mary's in Mullen, and All Saints in Hyannis are under the care of the Diocese of Grand Island. The Diocese is well over 42,000 square miles that encompasses the Panhandle, the central territory above the South Platte River, and the eastern reaches of Grand Island proper. The Diocese is home to a vast array of hard working and God loving Catholics seeking to encounter Jesus daily. For more information and various resources click here: https://gidiocese.org

Current Bishop of the Diocese

The Bishop of the Diocese shepherds,  governs, and sacrifices for the whole Diocese from his parish, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in Grand Island. The current shepherd of the Diocese is

The Most Reverend Joseph G. Hanefeldt. He is serving as the 8th Bishop of the Diocese. Click here https://gidiocese.org/statements for any statements made by His Excellency

Priestly Vocations

Hebrews tells us that the priests are taken from among us to become servants to us, the people. This vocation requires a great deal of discernment and formation. Currently the Diocese of Grand Island has 6 men who are discerning what kind of fatherhood the Lord is calling them to, through the seminary process. Please pray for these men and for men across the Diocese to have the courage to ask, "what fatherhood does Jesus want for me to be happy?" For other information and help with vocation discernment see http://www.givocations.org/#welcome-home

Religious Vocations

In the same manor that a young man asks the Lord for what fatherhood he is meant for, young ladies also ask God what motherhood would be best for them. We know from 1 Corinthians that some are called to a different type of spousal motherhood then a married woman. These women, the Nuns and Sisters, play a vital role in the vibrant life of the Church. The Diocese has a number of women that are discerning in Religious Orders across the USA. In addition, the Diocese has a dozen different Orders represented in the Diocesan Parishes. The Saintly Vocation to Family Life

The family is the foundation of all society! Men and women are made for each other and many are asked to be joined to their spouse; to love them into Heaven. As they do so, they build their family, the very life blood of Faith and the Domestic Church. It is vital that we support the family, pray for the family, and help them to share their Faith. St. Paul reports in Corinthians that, "Love never fails." The love a family shares, if rooted in Christ and His Church, will radically convert the world for Christ. This is a Saintly and challenging vocation, but one that builds the Kingdom. For other information and help with vocation discernment see http://www.givocations.org/#welcome-home

The Diocesan Appeal

The Diocese of Grand Island seeks  to support the various vocations though her outreach, ministry, resources, retreats, and programs. All of these are made possible by the very generous members of the Diocese. Their charity lends actual support to their neighbors.
